Youth sports to receive 10 percent of profits

Papua New Guinea's National Gaming Control Board (NGCB) issued a license to PNG Lotto, which will from now on provide a mobile phone gambling lottery service. NGCB stated on this occasion that this new development may prove to be the way toward legitimization of illegal gambling that can be found in the country at the moment.

Papua New Guinea previously had a deal with lottery provider Gold Lotto which ceased operations in 2003, because of the lack of accountability and transparency.

According to Eddie Sinai, NGCB operations, 10 percent of all profits gained in this business will be allocated for development and engagement of youths in sports. He added that the board has a task to monitor and ensure fairness in this respect, in order to prevent the issues they had with the previous lottery from happening again.

The lottery with the Digicel Mobile Network, will work in the following way: players pick six numbers (anywhere between one and 44) and text them in order to receive a confirmation receipt via SMS. In case they win, they will be asked to provide their phone number and SIM card, so as to collect the winnings.
