Online Vs. Land Based Statistics
The release of a new study by the UK Gambling Commission shows that mobile gaming may not be growing at the high rate suggested in recent reports. The UK gambling prevalence study shows a minute increase in remote gambling of 0.07%. This is mainly due to the sales of national lottery tickets.

In the area of online gambling, the study shows that for the year ending June 2011, 11.8% of the 4,000 adults surveyed said they had participated in at least one form of remote gambling in the prior four weeks. The date range used to tally these statistics was average figures in September 2010, December 2010, March 2011 and June 2011. The study showed that 50% of those examined had taken part in a minimum of one of the National Lottery products. The percentage is slightly higher than the 2010 figure of 11.1%.

The survey revealed that those participating in remote gambling were more likely to be men than women aged 18-44. This is very close to the average age range of online bingo players according to other published studies. Average online bingo players are also more likely to be women according to these same studies.
General gambling research indicates that for the year to June 2011, the average figures in September 2010, December 2010, March 2011 and June 2011, 56.7% of the 4,000 adults surveyed had participated in at least one form of land based gambling in the prior four weeks.

In 2010 the figure was 55.5% and in 2009 it was 55.2%.

The number of participants in land based gambling:

• National Lottery tickets – 46.3%

• Tickets for society and good causes – 11.6%

• National Lottery scratch cards – 10.7%

• Betting on horses – 4.6%

• Bingo – 3.4%

• Fruit machines and slots – 3.3%

It certainly is surprising to see Bingo beat out Fruit Machines and Slots. Although not by much, this just proves the growing popularity of the game. Based on this information, women are more likely to gamble than men and those over 45 are most likely to take part.
