Texas Scratchcard Winner Making International Headlines
The US reported the story of Joan Ginther Texas Lottery winner last year while it finally caught on to the international media this week.

As if she may be lady luck herself, the 63 year old statistician from Las Vegas has had 4 major million dollar wins beating odds that are estimated at a staggering 1,260,900,000,000,000,000,000,000 to one.

“Jackpot” Joan known by the locals, purchased the first three tickets at the same gas station in her home town in Bishop, Texas at a gas station. The fourth one was bought at a store in the nearby town of Kingsville.

* 1993: $5.4 million share of an US$11 million Texas Lottery jackpot. Ginther's take: $270,000 a year for 19 years.

* 2006: With only six years of payments left from her previous big win, Ginther scored a $2 million prize from a scratch-off ticket. Her take: $1.5 million lump-sum payment.

* 2008: A $3 million jackpot from a scratch card.

* 2010: Just over $10 million in the Texas Lottery “Extreme Payout” scratch card, which costs $50 to play.

A Texas Lottery Commission spokesperson said of her luck, “We have had multiple winners before, but she's obviously been born under a lucky star.”
