Spanish punters’ superstition boosts numbers

Thanks to the good luck date – 11.11.2011, a special Spanish charity lottery attracted a great number of European punters to buy tickets.

There were so many players seeking to buy the tickets from ONCE, a charity for the blind whose name means "eleven" in Spanish, that they queued in front of lottery stands selling the tickets for a draw whose main prize was EUR11 million.

The charity’s revenues will be significantly boosted, as all of the available tickets were sold at around Euro 5. Also, this generated the prize pool of over EUR60 million, providing for the massive first prize and 11 other top payouts of at least a million Euros.
