Spanish Annual Lottery Thrives
El Gordo is fed well

There seems to be no winter or economic crisis for Spaniards, who keep spending on their annual lottery El Gordo, according to the latest reports which claim that a record number of tickets has been sold.

This year, the lottery will give out EUR2.5 billion to over 1,202,490 cash prize winners, and the main prize will be EUR4 million, which is 33 percent higher than last year. The smallest lottery unit sold is a tenth of a ticket, or decimo, which goes for EUR20.

It has been announced by officials from operator Loterias y Apuestas del Estado that the winners will be drawn on December 22.

Also, the recent assessments report that a grand majority of ninety percent of adult Spaniards play the Christmas lottery, and that they buy tickets by pooling money with workmates or friends.
