Valuable info against crime rings obtained
In a raid conducted by the police in Jamaica against lottery scam resulted in t arrest of six locals, seizure of computers but also other documents which provide valuable information that will help further investigations.
According to the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID), two persons were arrested while retrieving money from a United States currency account that contained over $60,000. It appears from the investigation conducted in cooperation with the US authorities that many victims of the scams are elderly US residents.
In addition, the police arrested another four persons in two premises it raided. There it obtained another several computers that contain information on the lottery scam and lead lists which include the names of victims, their addresses and other personal information.
It has also been observed in the Jamaican media that the country has long operated as a centre for international telemarketing frauds that target elderly Americans, and that such actions produce roughly $300 million a year.
