Online Gambling in Georgia Possible?
Georgia Lottery Corp considering the option

It appears that the possibility of internet lottery is brewing in Georgia, where the Georgia Lottery Corporation board of directors voted to launch such an initiative that would enable players to buy tickets for jackpot games online.

It has been stated by Lottery president Margaret DeFrancisco that lotteries are among the last industries to offer products digitally. She also specified that the initial offering will include MegaMillions, PowerBall and Fantasy 5 will be the initial offerings, while scratch card-style products will be launched in the future.

"Our mission here is to maximize revenue for the HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K programs," she said, adding that the online offerings will not be a big revenue booster: "This will not be a huge piece of revenue."

She also specified that safeguards will be introduced to ensure players are of legal age and in the state while playing, and that the lottery will also offer a special debit card called an iHOPE to fund lottery purchases online and at retail.

According to her, with the iHOPE card, punters will also be able to make retail purchases other than lottery tickets.

Regarding the online sales, which should start late this year or early in 2013, DeFrancisco said: "We expect there to be slow and steady growth."
