Big Gala Bingo Winner Loses Fight with Cancer
Carmel Paton was known for an amazing bingo win back in 2010. She passed away last month at her daughter's home after losing her fight with cancer.

80-year-old Paton won £28,000 at Gala Bingo in January 2010. She had been playing at the bingo club in Queensway two times a week. She had been playing bingo for 10 years even after she wasn't fond of the game early on.

"I can remember a friend of my mum's inviting her to play bingo and she turned her nose up at the thought," Paton's daughter, Jessie Paton said.

"When she finally went she absolutely loved it and was hooked. The £28,0000 win was amazing for her.

"She did believe by that time she had put her fair share of money in so deserved it.

"My mum was a very matriarchal type of person but very family orientated.

"She spent part of the money she won on taking all the family on a holiday to Ireland."

Plans to take Paton's funeral procession past the Gala Bingo club were cancelled due to potential traffic it may cause in the city center; however staff looked on as the procession took place.

She is survived by her brother Seamus, children Kathleen, Jessie, Joseph, James, Carmel and Isabella, 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
