One young Kentucky man has learned just how important bingo is after fraudulently yelling bingo and causing uproar in a bingo hall.
A judge has recently prohibited Austin Whaley from saying "bingo" for six months after falsely calling in February. Whaley was employed as a member of the security staff at a Covington, KY bingo hall and had the audacity to shout “bingo”. He was cited for second-degree disorderly conduct by police who said he "delayed the game by several minutes and caused alarm to patrons." You can just imagine the alarm bells ringing overhead. Wouldn't you have loved to be a fly on the wall of that bingo hall?
The false call had elderly women, the majority of the bingo hall's clientele, "yelling and cussing". The police officer involved says he would have let Whaley off with nothing more than a slap on the wrist until he refused to apologize.
"He seemed to think he could say whatever he wanted because it was a public building," said the officer. "You can't go into a ballpark and yell 'out,' because people could stop the game."
The lesson? Don't yell bingo unless you've got a bingo!
