British Celeb Criticized for Promoting Bingo
It's not uncommon to see celebrities endorse gambling brands in one way or another. We've seen Peter Andre as the face of Gala Bingo, Mel B on Costa Bingo and recently Atomic Kitten singer, Kerry Katona, launched her own online bingo brand, Bingo with Kerry. Some may wonder if people in the public eye should be part of gambling related businesses. Katona has taken some criticism from a gambling therapist for her involvement in the new bingo brand.

Gambling therapist, Liz Karter, refers to the endorsement as “dangerous”. Katona has gone bankrupt, twice, and perhaps she's just looking to invest in one of Britain's favorite games to generate some much needed income.

Bingo with Kerry went live in 2015 but the official promotional launch took place in January 2016.

Karter, author of 'Women and Problem Gambling', calls the venture "disturbing".

"I feel Kerry has been ill-advised on this occasion. I feel for Kerry as she is someone who has suffered a lot in her life”, she told The Sun.

"But it's very dangerous for women seeing her as the friendly face of a bingo site. For Kerry to be giving online bingo the celebrity seal of approval when she has a mental health issue is very disturbing."

The new brand, owned by 8 Ball Games, welcomes players with a comment from Katona:

"I've been so excited to create a personal bingo experience for everyone and to get the chance to have a good laugh and gossip with you all EVERY month."

We'd like to hear your thoughts on celebrity involvement in gambling related business opportunities. Is it right, wrong or are you among those that couldn't care less?
