Gala Bingo Nightmare

Gala Bingo Nightmare
Marie Calder, from Moston, a woman attacked with her son in front of Gala Bingo in January 2014, has recently spoken out about the frightening experience. To recap the incident, which specifically took play on January 12th, 2014, Marie had been waiting outside of the bingo hall for her son, Scott, to give her cash to play, and when he arrived, shots fired soon followed.

In regards to what exactly happened, Marie explains, “I got into Scott's car. He said 'can you pick up that drink up for me please', it was Lucozade or Ribena. He took a little drink of it and threw it out the window. (As he did that) the door just swung open – the driver's side.”

She added, “I seen three males trying to drag Scott out and I was pulling him. I seen one of them was James Instone, at the front, trying to pull Scott out. I didn't really see the other two, I only seen one of them had a bald head, behind James Instone, he was stocky build. He was doing the same as James Instone, trying to get Scott out. I was pulling Scott in by his body.”

It is then explained that the two individuals opened fire on Marie and her son, and both were injured in the process. Marie recalls, “I just felt like I'd been punched.”

Both Marie and her son eventually got away. Marie explains, “Scott started to reverse his car. They were still trying to drag him out, he just put his foot down and shot forwards.”

Since the incident, it has been theorized that Scott was singled out, as a result of an alleged £38,000 worth of cocaine, stolen from gangsters. The men have since been identified at James Instone, 33, Mark Baker, 45, and James Henry, 29. While the men denied this, there is evidence suggesting otherwise, as Marie's late husband, John, confided that his nephew, Stuart Shears, commented that he want to give 'Auntie Marie,' “a treat.”

Following this, John admitted to meeting Shears at a Charlestown pub in Blackley, returning with a bag filled with £50,000. According to Marie, the money was never spent, though she did try to count it, but she firmly believes it was given with the intent to keep her and her family quiet.
