Pokémon Go Craze Spreads to Mecca Bingo

Pokémon Go Craze Spreads to Mecca Bingo
You probably live under a rock if you haven't heard of the latest app, developed by Niantic, for iOS and Android devices, Pokémon Go. It has taken the world by storm, breaking records along the way, even earning the title as 'Most downloaded app in the first week' ever.

The app was first released to select countries on July 6th. It has now opened up to a wider audience, with releases in additional countries every few days. The game makes use of both the GPS and camera on your mobile device, and enables players to capture various Pokémon creatures, which can later be trained and battled. It encourages to go out into the world, and actively hunt the creatures on foot.

With this latest craze attracting individuals of all ages, it's no surprise that businesses across the globe are using the success of the app to bring in the business. One of the latest to jump on the bandwagon, is Exeter's Mecca Bingo, located on North Street, in the UK.

It has posed a Pokémon-inspired challenge to its customers, which began on Saturday, July 23rd, and will continue for just one week. More specifically, the bingo hall is calling all Pokémon hunters, with a love for bingo, to catch as many creatures as possible. In doing so, they will earn the chance to win a series of goodies, including a free meal, free game of bingo, plus slots vouchers, good for two to play free.

It's not quite as simple as just catching the creatures. In order to qualify, participants must share a screenshot of any Pokémon they come across while inside the bingo hall to social media, accompanied by the hashtag, #MeccaPokemon. Acceptable social media outlets include Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Social media manager for Meccabingo.com, Candice Nicolakos, commented, "Pokemon Go has taken the world by storm and is now officially bigger than Twitter and Tinder in terms of daily users. We wanted to see just how many creatures are waiting to be caught in our clubs across the UK. Who better to find out for us than Pokemon enthusiasts?”

Nicolakos added, "To reward them for their help in discovering how many Pokemon are hiding in our Mecca clubs, we thought it was only fair to give away a daily chance to win a night out on us to one lucky Pokemon hunter."
