Online Action at Maryland?
Revenue boost expected

A report came from Maryland that the state lottery is planning to introduce an online ticket and gaming system by 2013, which will include different games and drawings that are expected to boost the lottery's revenue by $2.5 million.

This may be a measure to remedy the fact that Maryland residents currently buy fewer tickets than in other states – by providing players with more convenience of buying lottery tickets.

However, there has been some opposition from traditional retail ticket sellers, who believe their businesses would suffer from the threat of online sales.

The online system, whose introduction will cost about $500,000, comes as an addition to a new Maryland mobile site, where customers can check on winning numbers.
