Mecca Bingo Is Hoping to Create 50 Jobs
A second complex in North Staffordshire to offer employment possibilities

In addition to its Octagon Retail Park, Hanley venue, Mecca Bingo recently announced its plans to open a new club nearby, and thereby provide employment for around 50 people.

According to Mark Jones, managing director of Mecca Bingo, "We are actively seeking a new location in Newcastle as we are keen to open one of our new-look leisure venues in the area.

"Not only will it bring much-needed employment opportunities to the area but it will also offer locals a new female-friendly sociable gaming concept which is an attractive alternative to standard leisure activities such as the cinema or going to the pub.

"Our new style clubs offer live entertainment, food which is cooked to order and the chance to take part in some fun gaming."

In order to find an adequate venue in Newcastle, Mecca is now seeking help from members of the public – apparently they're looking for a site on a prominent A-road on a retail or leisure park, close to large residential areas, and with a minimum of 150 car parking spaces.

As a compensation for the effort, Mr Jones said that "A fee will be paid for successful introductions."

It appears that residents are happy about the new construction plans. One of them, a customer services adviser Rebecca Scott from Clayton, said: "I don't know where it could go, but it would be good to get a Mecca in Newcastle.

"I like the one in Hanley, but I'd to go Newcastle if there was a Mecca there because it would be easier for me to get to on the bus."

Another comment arrived from a sales assistant Nicola Darlington from Newcastle, who assessed: "It would be good to have a Mecca Bingo in Newcastle town centre because it would be something different.

"It would be something for people of all ages and perhaps bring in people who don't usually visit and who will also go into the other businesses."

In conclusion, it has been specified by Councillor Robin Studd, Newcastle Borough Council's cabinet member for regeneration and planning, that even the authority will help in the search for a site, adding: "In principle we would welcome plans that would create jobs for local people and boost the economy so we would be more than happy to support the company in trying to identify a suitable location."
