May data show impressive 23.62 billion yuan ($3.75 billion) performance
According to the Ministry of Finance statistics, lottery sales in China rose 26.1% y-o-y in May 2012 to reach 23.62 billion yuan ($3.75 billion), the China Daly newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The growth slightly dropped compared to the April rise of 26.4%.
Sales of Welfare lottery ticket reached 14.01 billion yuan in May, 29.8% than last year. In parallel, sports lottery tickets sales gained 21% year on year recording the 9.6 billion yuan performance.
Total lottery sales for the first five months of 2012 were increased with the May figure by 28.4% y-o-y to 107.44 billion yuan.
As per the Ministry statement, new lottery games have been released, while sales outlets for quiz-type games have been broadened.
Reports show that all Chinese provincial-level regions (without Beijing) marked y-o-y growth in lottery sales during the January-May period. The major increase was recorded by Jiangsu province, where sales increased by 4.74 billion yuan compared to the same period 2011.
Based on the data issued by the World Lottery Association, Q1 2012 global lottery sales rose by 13.4% compared to the same period a year ago. The Asia-Pacific region marked highest growth with a 27.9% improvement. Top markets are still Chinese Mainland lotteries and Japan's latest reconstruction lottery with Japan sales rising by 52.6%.
