Bingo for McDonald's

A McDonald's in Minnesota is hosting weekly bingo games with food coupons as prizes.

"McDonald's: Not the first place one would think of to host a bingo game. And yet it's a weekly tradition that's been going on for years', said customer Lynne Bergman.

"A few years ago my husband and I saw a sign at the McDonald's in Golden Valley that said they were hosting Senior Bingo at 9 a.m. on Tuesday mornings," she said. "We thought, 'Hey, we should do this sometime.'"

"Now we go every week. It's just been so much fun for us."

The bingo games were originally available to senior citizens but have since begun to welcome all players.

Customers collect bingo cards at no charge and winners receive a free sandwich.

"We had some time to kill, so we walked in here on a Tuesday and saw all these people," bingo player, Paul Johnson said. "We thought, 'What's going on here?' Then we decided to play. Now we come every week.'

"It's a nice little game I can play with this guy," he said of his son. "It's good to help him concentrate and learn numbers. He's at a good age for it, I think."

The bingo games have created a sense of community and opened a new world of friendships over bingo and burgers.

Oh what a fabulous idea this is! I've seen some honky-tonks have bingo tournaments using farm animals and waiting to see what number they will "drop" on, but this is real bingo, folks! And, you can win a sandwich from McDonalds! How awesome is that?

Heck, I'd be there every day they had bingo going on. I'd bring my laptop because they have free wifi in McDonalds now, and I wouldn't want to miss out on my online bingo just because I wanted a free lunch and a little excitement in my life.

More and more folks are seeing the seniors have had it going all along with their bingo. And, the longer we live, the more bingo we can play. I could see myself taking the grandkids, getting some happy meals, and having us all get our bingo going and winning some dessert!

Obviously if you participate regularly, you will get to meet and become a "regular". This is a great way to coax the home-bound outside for a little while. Just a little trip to McDonalds. Oh, what's this? They are playing bingo for quarterpounders with cheese! Oh, let's try it!

I think this is a great idea for small communities. Here in Texas, we would probably do bingo one day at Dairy Queen and the next at McDonalds! Everyone meets at either one of those places. They are the social hub and adding in a vigorous bingo game, well, that's just whipped cream on my McShake!
