Television adverts are filled with marketing campaigns for online bingo. This has appealed to the masses with cheap ticket prices, around the clock access and the potential to win huge jackpot prizes. Some of the major online bingo sites have millions of members and these numbers are continuing to rise.
As much as players enjoy the convenience of playing bingo at their leisure, do we want to lose our bingo clubs? Several of the clubs around the country are closing. Many of the bingo halls around London that were once popular have shut their doors and even reopened as shops and a variety of other businesses. Closures include several Gala Bingo and Mecca Bingo clubs.
There are those that are trying to bring back the club culture that we once knew as we forge forward in our online communities. Somewhere there has to be a happy medium.

Whoa! Hold on there, partner...them's fightin' words! How sad to think that the bingo club (or parlor, as we call it around here) is a dying institution. I am not sure if the US land bingo sites are failing as well, but I would hate to see them go. Perhaps it is because it isn't frowned upon to play bingo online...

Perhaps it is because it isn't frowned upon to play bingo online over there it is not necessary any longer to make the trip to the local club. No matter how much bingo you can play online, the experience in playing in a room or hall full of other bingo players is quite unique. I can't imagine folks who have made a regular routine of their bingo fun are too happy about the closures. Not everyone has access to a computer nor knowledge about playing online. Yes, now that I think more on it, this must be a phenomenon that is almost exclusive to the UK. Here in the states, the bingo parlors are the only sanctioned places where one can play bingo according to the law. At least, that's how it is in Texas. We don't have online sites bombarding us with adverts so I'll bet a majority of players don't know a thing about playing online. I feel sorry for the older folks who need their bingo club for socializing and meeting up with friends. Maybe the clubs should embrace the online aspect and have a sort of "bingo cafe" where laptops are available to play online. It could open up a whole new era for the UK bingo clubs.
