The man who stole a $5 million lottery ticket that was stolen from his parents convenience store in Syracuse in 2006, Andy Ashkar, has been sentenced to a 8 1/3 up to 25 years in prison by the Onondaga County prosecutor's office this week.
He was condemned by the same Judge who convicted Ashkar earlier this year for criminal possession of stolen property, and on the occasion the Judge again underlined Ashkar's "rapacious greed".
On the other hand, Ashkar's brother, who was originally investigated as an accomplice, was cleared of conspiracy charges.
The lottery still seems to be trying to handle the case in the best way possible and it now said it is "close to determining whether the ticket belongs to Robert Miles", who is believed to be the true owner of the winning scratch ticket.
