Bingo Revival

Bingo Revival
The news hit this week that Gala Coral is looking to sell its Gala Bingo clubs around the UK. Gala Bingo has been a popular fixture around the country with something like 144 clubs. Selling the clubs doesn't necessarily mean that they will shut down but it will certainly be a sad day when they are sold. It would mark the end of an era and besides, there have been Gala and well as other club closures all over the country especially in London. The truth is that sales have decreased for land based bingo clubs but why?

This year brought an especially warm summer which kept players out of the bingo clubs and outdoors enjoying activities, barbecues and the sea air. This was one reason for declining revenues not only for Gala Bingo but for other clubs including Mecca Bingo. Why stay inside and play bingo when you know you better grab a warm English summer while you can.

In addition to a warm season, there have been other contributing factors to the declining land based bingo industry. The major contender is the online bingo explosion. It's convenient, offers a wider variety of games and can be played from anywhere with internet access, even outside in the garden while catching some sun. The access to bingo has expanded further with mobile bingo applications.

Once we move forward with technology and convenience is there a way back? We all look back at old ways of doing things and think “how'd they ever live like that”?

Could this move mean something good for the land based bingo industry? Maybe another company stepping in and adding a new twist could revamp the experience and draw players in. We just hope that land based bingo doesn't become a thing of the past and choose to think of this potential move as a step toward a land based bingo revival.
