UK Bingo Duty Reduced
The topic of discussion in UK bingo these days has been the high taxes but it seems there has been a bit of reprieve for bingo operators around the country thanks to a reduction.

According to the Isle of Thanet Gazette, local bingo players were out and about celebrating George Osborne's duty reduction on bingo. Duty on bingo clubs went down from 20% to 10%, exceeding the initial request for a 5% reduction.

In February, bingo customers from the Thanet Mecca Bingo Club headed for Westminster to show support and gather more than 300,000 petition signatures in an effort to reduce duty.

Claire Chalmers, Manager of Mecca Bingo Club in Thanet, said: “Mecca is delighted that the Government has given the bingo industry such a boost by halving bingo duty to 10%.

“This will enable us to look at ways to provide our customers with even better value for money and an even better experience when they visit our clubs.”

Miles Baron, Chief Executive of The Bingo Association, said: “This is the most fantastic news – everyone is absolutely delighted. The decision to reduce duty by 10% means bingo clubs will get an even bigger boost than we had hoped for. Bingo fans across the country will be celebrating today!”
