Sometimes the best things happen at the most unexpected of moments. That's exactly how it happened for Karl Hemstedt, 37, residing in Clacton, England. After reluctantly agreeing to head to the local Gala Bingo hall with his wife, Hannah, he managed to strike it big in no time at all.
After just a short time in the facility, Karl snagged a massive pot, amounting to nearly £8,000.
According to Karl, “My wife wanted me to go along to the bingo with her and I was trying to get out of it. But her friends didn't want to go so we called my dad to babysit and off we went.”
He managed to score this win while playing a 'Gold Pot' side game, in addition to the main game.
As soon as he obtained a 'Bingo,' he yelled it out to make it known he had won. At this point, he had not yet realized the jackpot he won.
He explains, “I called out thinking I had won maybe £500, and everyone gasped. I didn't know what was going on. Then my wife started shaking and the management came out to check my ticket and confirm it.”
Karl was completely taken aback, and had a difficult time comprehending what was happening. He recalls, “They told me I had won the jackpot but it didn't sink in at all, even when they brought over a bottle of bubbly.”
He further added, “Eventually they told me I'd won £7,718 because I'd got the Gold Pot as well as the full house. Everyone came to congratulate me and one woman rubbed my arm for good luck.”
Gala Bingo will be delivering a check to the lucky winner in the near future, and with the newly acquired cash, he plans to take his family on a vacation next year, as his children have never been on an airplane.
