Camelot Receives £1.2M Gambling Commission Fine

National Lottery operator from the United Kingdom, Camelot, has been penalized by the Gambling Commission with £1.2 million after failing to comply with five controls-related regulations. The operator has confessed certain oversights and breaches, including direct debit instruction, as well as security measures. Moreover, the company has failed at publishing complete results for its Olympic medal prize promotion, and has even violated Post Office controls.

False Prize Outcomes:

Perhaps the most alarming misdemeanor lies in presenting incorrect prize results on mobile devices by sending 'non-winning messages' to players with winning tickets! After receiving a serious fine from the UK Gambling Commission, Camelot published an official statement:

"While we have always sought to run The National Lottery to the highest possible standards, we accept that, at the time of these incidents, our standards in certain areas weren't as rigorous as they should have been and for that we're sorry."

The positive side of the story is that UKGC has put its investigation on hold due to Camelot's operational excellence programme. In addition, after years of providing exceptional lottery services, the company is still among the top rated operators, plus it expressed "early acceptance of failings."

Repair Process Is Underway:

According to the executive director of the Gambling Commission, Richard Watson, Camelot is working on fixing the issues and damage it has caused by giving assurances to the agency that necessary steps have already been taken. Their number one concern is, of course, prevention of reoccurrence, since it's crucial that the National Lottery is run responsibly, without further compromising of its integrity.
